Overview

Samantha Wilson is a successful award-winning freelance writer with a passion to be the voice for others. Despite a childhood that was sad, painful, and meant to leave her broken, she worked hard to build a life for herself. A life like the one she wrote about and dreamed of as a young girl growing up in Wisconsin. She leaves the area after a violent attack exposes her truth, she is labeled queer by her small community, and banished by her aunt. She vows never to come back and does her best to forget about that part of her life. She feels like she had it all, the career she wants, great friends, and a good life. A writing assignment several years later takes her to Milwaukee, not far from the farm she lived with her mother and the place she lost her soul. After an unsolicited visit from a family member, Sammie will be forced to face the past she tried to forget. Her best friend Zoë flies up to be by her side while she confronts the things that happened. As she navigates through the memories, she begins to realize the impact the life she left behind had on her. How it has held her back from living the life she wants and from experiencing the love she desires. The assignment brought her on this journey that helped her find purpose, a community that would embrace her, and meaningful friendships. Will she find the courage to free herself from the hold her past has on her and allow herself to feel the things she avoided? Sammie is looking for her happy ending, but will it be the one Zoë hoped for too? Or will an act of violence end it all?
