While many of Mercy Lyons’ works center plus-size bodies – and bodies of many ages, shapes, and other diversities – this collection is entirely about the sexual lives of full-figured women, such as the author herself. “Thick: Plus-Sized Lesbian Lovers” brings three detailed erotic stories to life. “When You Say Nothing At All” follows Yazmin as she goes on a silent retreat for queer professionals over 30 to relax after a demanding promotion. She’s reluctant about the new-age style of relaxation, but she doesn’t expect the retreat to turn into a sultry evening of sex with another woman, considering the two have never spoken a single word to each other. In “Character Work,” opera singer Esther has landed the role of a lifetime in Paris: Salome, a seductive villainess. When veteran singer Liliana watches the opening performance, she says the only thing missing was the honesty of sexuality. That same night, the two primadonnas have passionate sex in a hotel room to inspire Esther’s work. Doing favors for an ex-lover-turned-friend gets messy in “Figures.” When a nude portrait model stays late after class as a favor for Tee, her old flame who’s now an art professor, they unintentionally rediscover their old spark in a frantic, passionate one-night affair.
