The city of San Francisco, spritzed with sea spray and dusted with twinkling light, harbors a soul drinker.
The Darkling is one of the last of their kind, one hunted down for centuries, one that can only survive at the expense of others--- a Shadow Wielder. They know not of the comfort of light, nor the warmth of love and joy. They are content with that way of life. It's the only one they've ever known, after all.
Except, one fateful rainy evening, the breathing shadow happens upon a mysterious, ethereal room, one locked away from human perception.
They did not expect to find this within such a dilapidated part of the city. They certainly didn't think a man would appear inside of it.
Now they're stuck, in a false body and under a false name, living with that same strange man, Fred, in hopes of drinking the most potent and luxurious soul they've ever sensed. Fred is the perfect opposite to the living darkness, and he doesn't suspect a thing. He may not be completely human, based on his circumstances of appearing, but he's dumb and dresses weirdly and doesn't know what a car is. He's the perfect prey for a soul drinker like the Darkling.
Surely this won't be too hard, then, right?
... Right?
