As Cody Helms steps onto the prestigious grounds of the Alliance Military Academy, he knows he's finally leaving his childhood on the Fringe of settled space behind. But his dreams of becoming a cadet come with a catch—he’s got to survive living with three roommates, including a volatile chemist, a Legacy with a chip on his shoulder, and the first alien to ever attend the Academy.

The Alliance is in a fragile state, and Cody wants to fight for it. But there’s more at stake than his dreams. With his family's safety on the line, Cody must learn to trust those around him, including the person he may be falling for.
