Quentin Hartley feels like he lost out on the love of his life after he ended things with his situationship, Drew Moreau, a year ago. Now Drew is out and proud and in a wonderful relationship with another man. Quentin is still closeted, his team just lost the Crawford Cup Final, and he’s not happy with where his life is. When he’s asked to be the celebrity host of a famous late-night comedy show, he agrees. What starts as a fun time turns into a tense situation when he repeatedly clashes with the music guest, Joel Beckett, a famous young pop star.
Joel Beckett has a life any hopeful musician could envy. He has fame and legions of fans, a Grammy, and a promising career ahead of him. He also has a secret: he’s gay, and his record label is strongly encouraging that he stay in the closet, because they are worried about alienating his female fans. Joel feels like he is stuck living a lie, and doesn’t see any options for hope, until he meets Quentin Hartley, a very attractive young NHL player. But when what could’ve been a meet-cute turns into a public and very embarrassing disaster, Joel thinks he’s ruined any chance of something sweet with Quentin.
The young men’s PR teams aren’t willing to let the disaster become a scandal, however, and they work their machinations to engineer a fake PR friendship between the two. When Quentin and Joel find themselves forced together in multiple situations, they find a connection growing between the two of them and realize that their strong feelings against each other might actually be feelings for each other.
