Dr. Nicholas Blake is young, ambitious, and just started his new job as an assistant professor of English literature. At Queen’s University, he works with Reed Hargreaves on interdisciplinary lectures, but the history professor seems to have a problem with him right from the start. Or why else would he behave so standoffish?
Prof. Reed Hargreaves always loved lecturing on modern history. That was until he lost his wife to terminal illness. Experiencing this tragic loss reduced him to a mere shadow of who he used to be, keeping everyone at bay while drowning in his grief. When being teamed up with young, enthusiastic Nicholas Blake, all he wants is to be left alone with his sorrow.
While Nick soon finds out the true reason for the older professor’s abrasiveness and becomes sympathetic towards him, Reed needs some time to be coaxed out from behind the walls he has constructed around himself.
