After discovering an Eternity chip in Vorzon, Xian is kidnapped by the cyborg raider, Roz, and held hostage, with the intention that Zune will come to rescue her, indirectly bringing Roz a second Eternity chip. Things quickly turn sour when Zune bursts in on Xian having sex with Roz. Don't miss the fifth installment of this lesbian romance series!

Zune was still slamming Roz against the wall, still slowly breaking her neck with a cold, narrow-eyed satisfaction that was horrifying, and for several seconds, Xian couldn't move as she stood there covering her bare breasts: she had never imagined Zune capable of such jealousy and rage.
--
"I'll never change," Zune realized, staring at her hand. "Becoming what I am . . . Becoming this thing froze me in time. I'll always be the exact same person, with the same experiences defining me."
"What does Xian want to change about you?"
"Everything, I suspect," Zune answered. "And can I really blame her? She didn't ask to be a mother or to deal with my crazy bullshit and drama." She thought of Zoe's funeral with a pang. "She deserves someone young with no messed-up past, no baggage --"
"Everyone has baggage," said Super at once. "Even robots."
--
"Xian isn't here," Super said abruptly.
Zune staggered to halt, craning her neck back to look at the giant robot's distant face. "What, no 'hello'?" she called. "No 'nice to see you'?"
Super paused and said, "Hello, then, Zune. I didn't think you were one for pleasantries."
"Normally, I'm not," Zune admitted. "I'm trying to be less of an asshole."
"An admirable endeavor," said Super, amused.

Zune stood on the roof of the old apartment complex, her scuffed boots among the tangle of thick cords that spread in a dark web across the ground. It was the same broken building where Xian had plugged her up and recharged her only days before, sending a sensual thrill through her old systems and slightly arousing her. It would be a fitting place to go into sleep mode, to stand in silent guard, here, beneath the enormous yellow moon, and perhaps she would never again wake. The moon hovered over her even now, obscuring the stars. She envied them, that they could stay afloat when it seemed that all her life she had been falling.
