Evan grew up in a conservative family. When he came out his family rejected him. He found a new family when he joined the military. When they got out they formed Phoenix Security. Devlin was a force of nature that he gravitated to immediately, but his best friend didn't know his secret. Devlin always had acceptance and plenty of confidence in who he was. Meeting Evan was the best thing that ever happened to him. They became best friends while serving together and joined their friends' company when discharged.
