The Rocks
Kali is a loner. She grew up with her single mother, moving from city to city around the world, never able to make any connections. When her mother accepts a position at a remote seaside hotel in Nova Scotia, and they move into staff quarters, Kali realizes it might have been a mistake to follow her. As a city girl, she feels like she’s going to be bored, being so cut off from civilization. She decides to stick it out and gets a job washing dishes, knowing the hotel is seasonal and will close at the end of September.

Liz is the daughter of the hotel owner, and she’s pretty much the opposite of Kali—outgoing and self-confident. When Kali thwarts an unwanted advance from an overly aggressive suitor, Liz becomes fascinated by her and is determined to befriend her. Being an introvert, Kali resists, but Liz is persistent. Eventually, they form an unlikely friendship—and maybe something more.

As they get to know each other, they discover they have more in common than expected: a strangely intertwining past. It’s as if they were destined to be together, but Liz is afraid to admit her growing feelings for Kali. She has expectations to live up to, and having a relationship with a girl is definitely not one of them.

They each have plans at the end of the summer: Liz is going away to school, and Kali has dreams of going on a solo road-trip across North America on her motorcycle. Will Liz tell Kali how she really feels about her before time runs out? Does Kali feel the same way?
