Overview

St. Agnes of the Hollow, 1963 — a secluded Catholic girls’ boarding school in rural England. Behind ivy-covered walls and whitewashed silence, Marguerite “Maggie” Doyle, a poised and introspective final-year student, harbors a tormenting secret: she is drawn not to boys, but to Sister Therese, the young novice nun with stormy eyes and trembling hands.

Sister Therese is barely older than her students and struggles daily to suppress desires she does not name. When Maggie enters the confessional and reveals her “impure thoughts,” something in Therese fractures.
