Tied down by her old life and bound by the desires of others, Fox Spirit Fanren is sick of being perfect. Hungry to escape into a new life, all she has to do is complete one last con and, finally, she’ll be sated. She’s set… until she meets a battle-worn guard named Maelys, and suddenly, Fanren has a new taste on her lips worth craving. With Maelys immune to her charms and Fanren bound in entirely new, not unpleasant ways, Fanren will have to be careful or she risks not only losing her freedom, but her heart as well.

Maelys is stubborn, infuriating, and loyal to a fault. Formed from the clay of her city and animated by its magic, she’s never been given a choice in her duty; her battle scars alone are proof of that. So when she’s forced by circumstance to protect, even welcome, a thief she should be trying to get rid of at every turn, Maelys swears to keep her distance - even if what she really wants is to bind Fanren tight. It doesn’t help that Fanren keeps encouraging her to misbehave, or bonding with her city’s residents, or touching her so tenderly that Maelys might break apart from the force of her own starvation.

With time running out before their two worlds collide and their masks failing in the face of their warring desires, Fanren and Maelys cannot escape each other unscathed. Ravenous things love company, after all.
